Change. We say it is a good thing, and it is, but growth rarely comes wrapped in comfort. It demands we leave the familiar, pushing past the safety of habit. That first step can feel daunting, even overwhelming. But ask yourself, is the fear of discomfort worth living the same cycle for another five years?
We either decide to say “enough”, or life decides for us. You are either steering the wheel or simply along for the ride. Comfort is the quiet killer of progress. You cannot evolve while standing still.
Consider the making of a fine tuned kitchen knife. Steel strong enough to endure a lifetime is not born, it is forged. Heated beyond two thousand degrees, hammered under relentless weight, cut and layered again and again. Each strike forces it beyond its limits until it becomes workable. Only then do you choose its final shape, its size, its purpose.
Impurities are ground away, leaving shards of its weaker self on the floor. The process shifts from punishment to care, sanding away scars and refining with grace. Quenched in water, it finds its balance again. Slowly, the blade emerges in its intended form, and the handle shaped from wood, is fitted to ground and guide it. One provides action, the other direction.
The final stage is delicate. Fine grit polishing erases the last wounds, leaving a mirror finish that reflects its new identity. The edge is sharpened by hand, perfectly balanced, ready to cut through anything in its path. A protective coat seals the handle, bringing out the depth and beauty in every layer of grain.
You have your final work of art. A new useful tool, previously perceived as hunks of old dirty steel and wood. Choosing to be repurposed and born into its new life form.
Over time the knife will wear, its edge will dull, and its strength may waver. Yet with a few careful passes along a honing steel, the alignment returns, the edge regains its precision, and its purpose is renewed.
Be more like the knife. Find purpose in pressure and adversity. See it through to the end and know you will come out better for it . There is no gain without loss, no love without hurt , nothing to win without sacrifice . In order to find peace , you must go to war with yourself .
get out of your safe space, push yourself beyond what you thought was possible and you’ll find someone you never knew existed deep inside of you. As a friend once said “Awaken the dragon “.
